Please note that the pub will be closed from Monday 16th May to Thursday 19th May inclusive as our current landlord Andy Hogg hands the keys over to Harvey’s Brewery, who will now be running the pub with Darren Rose, our current manager at the helm. Read more here The Bricklayers Arms is a delightful lakeside public house, comprising three terraced cottages in a charming Kent village. The pub is situated at the end of the picturesque Darent Valley Walk. The sign represents Sir Winston Churchill, an expert bricklayer and whose home was at nearby Chartwell. We pride ourselves on getting involved with the local community and providing a warm and friendly welcome to our visitors. We serve Harvey's Best Bitter straight from the barrel, a fantastic range of wine and beautifully home cooked British pub food. Located opposite the Chipstead Sailing Lake, we are perfectly positioned for a warm bowl of soup after a walk, a summer cider on the green, or a comforting meal in front of our real, open log fire. Harvey's of Lewes is the oldest independent brewery in Sussex and is still in the Harvey family after eight generations. The history of brewing at Harvey’s dates back over 200 years and the impressive Victorian Gothic tower is a Lewes landmark which has been adapted over the past 150 years to house a modern brewing plant whilst still producing beer made in the traditional way.Harvey’s is still very much a local brewery – their beers are distributed within a 50 miles radius and they pursue a policy of ‘local sustainability.  Their hops come from Sussex, Kent and Surrey and the ‘Spent Hops’ find their way back to the land as fertiliser.    Harvey’s ‘Spent Grains’ are fed to the dairy herd at nearby Plumpton Agricultural College.Spring water for brewing is drawn via an artesian well 60 feet below the premises. This and their yeast strain used for half a century combine to produce a range of beers encompassing every style from Porter to Light Mild’s.Our flagship Sussex Best Bitter evolved in the post war period and is Harvey’s most popular and recognisable ale.  It has recently been voted Champion Best Bitter of Britain for two consecutive years.

Without trying to repeat myself here, The Bricklayers Arms is outstanding. Immensely popular and incredibly well run. It has an Old British feel that appeals to most of us. The Staff, proprietors are all warm and welcoming, courteous and hugely efficient and the Meals plentiful and again, outstanding. To top it all, as well as a being in a beautiful setting, the prices are anything but high!!! I couldn't recommend The Bricklayers Arms more highly

Great experience !! Food was amazing and the portions sizes were brilliant. They managed to fit us in last minute on a very busy day (Easter Sunday) and the service was second to none. Will definitely be going back and would 100% recommend. Thank you guys.

Great location opposite Chipstead Lakes. Parking is on the road. The green is wonderful and you can take your drinks over from the Bricklayers Arms. Reasonably priced drinks and food. Great for a family picnic or just a brief stroll...

We came here for the Sunday roast, and had the roast pork and roast chicken. Both dishes were great and generous in portion. We shared an apple crumble as dessert. The apple crumble was ok, but it came with a lumpy custard which was the only disappointment we had. Generally, a good place for Sunday roast.
