We have recently used Steven at Studio Drake to help with the extensions and reconfiguration of our 1930s family home. We had some initial ideas, but our main brief was very loose. Steven listened to our needs in detail and came up with a design that was completely unexpected yet gave us everything that we asked for, down to a double height space in a new kitchen. Steven’s care and attention put into the design of the building, how we’d live in the space as a family and how the spaces will accommodate our requirements as our family grows up, has been amazing. Material choices and external design has also been second to none – we’re so excited about the contrast between the original 1930s house and the ‘new’ elements to be added in glass and charred timber. Despite the modernist design elements, Steven’s work for the planning process meant our application was accepted with no comments from the planning department – we essentially sailed straight through. Steve is responsive and always available to help with expert guidance, a keen design aesthetic and a friendly attitude. We can’t wait to start building the extensions, it has been an extremely positive experience with Steven and would recommend him in a heartbeat if anyone is looking for an architect. Thank you Steve for all your hard work, we genuinely and deeply appreciate it!

We were put in touch with Steve when planning a big renovation job of our house. Steve visited to do a full survey and to discuss our plans. He was helpful and professional and also worked carefully within the Covid guidance at the time. We had already had some ideas about how we would like the house to be reconfigured, but he helped us with a few creative tweaks and changes that very much improved on these. He has produced detailed drawings and helped us deal with the building regulations process. We have since put the job out to tender and all the builders we have spoken to have been impressed with the level of detail and thought that has gone into the plans. We are yet to hire a builder but Steve has been helpful in advising us throughout the process so far and I look forward to seeing his drawings come to life when the job is finished!

We made contact with Steven Drake to seek professional advice on a house purchase that requires total refurbishment and extending. Steven worked with us to incorporate and improve on our ideas, adding value, managed the planning application process and oversaw the works. We have ended up with a dream home, one which estate agents are desperate to get their hands on, but they will be waiting a long time! We have always found Steven to be professional, a solution provider and very easy to work with and understand, unlike some architects who are often precious about their vision. We have subsequently engaged Studio Drake to advise on future projects and Steven will always be our first port of call for architectural and design.

We contacted Studio Drake in the first instance to look at the different ways in which could extend our house to make a more sociable kitchen and connect with the garden. Steven came to meet us a number of times to discuss what we were hoping to achieve. We explored what we like in terms of style, materials, sustainability and cost. He returned with sketch ideas first and then worked these ideas up into two very different proposals. We are going forward with one of the designs that we think will give us a real connection to the garden and a simple, stylish, light and airy space that replaces two rather cramped rooms at the back of the house. The design has a contemporary look and feel, yet is sympathetic to the original fabric of the house. Steven has been professional throughout and produced positive and creative solutions to our design requirements. The dialogue has been very good at all times and we are very excited by the completed design. Steven has guided us through Building Control and we now have contractors lined up. We are hoping to go on site within the next couple of months.

We have recently worked with Steven at Studio Drake on a planning application. Steven was excellent throughout; responsive, friendly and professional. The application was ‘complicated’ but Steven expertly managed this process and we were granted full planning approval. Studio Drake are managing the building tendering process.
